Mom’s Macaroni and Cheese

What's in it


12 oz. of elbow macaroni
3 Tablespoons butter
3 Tablespoons All purpose flour
3 cups milk
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
16 oz. shredded sharp cheddar cheese

How to cook it


  • Prepare pasta according to package directions.
  • Melt butter in large saucepan over medium-low heat. Whisk in flour until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly - 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk and cook. Whisking constantly 5 minutes or until mixture is thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in salt, pepper and 1 1/4 cup of shredded cheese and cooked pasta.
  • Spoon pasta mixture into lightly greased 2 quart baking dish. Top with remaining shredded cheese.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until bubbly - let stand 20 minutes.
