MONTGOMERY COUNTY THANKSGIVING PARADE HERALDS IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON
SATURDAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING, 10AM-12NOON
The streets are being overrun with turkeys, dinosaurs, penguins, and reindeer! No, the zoo hasn’t opened their gates – it is the Annual Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade! With marching bands, Bolivian dancing groups, floats, giant characters and balloons, and Santa, the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade is the only Thanksgiving Parade in the metro DC area.
Held in downtown Silver Spring, the exciting parade traditionally heralds the start of the holiday season. The parade steps off from Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street and proceeds south on Georgia Avenue, ending at Silver Spring Avenue. It also is televised live on News Channel 8 and rerun on Thanksgiving Day.
HOLIDAY FAMILY PHOTOS AND SELFIES
This year on Veterans Plaza the parade offers a place to take your family holiday photos. Right next to the ice rink, you can take your photo with inflatable turkeys, penguins, “Frozen’s” Elsa, or with Hanukkah or Christmas décor. All parade selfies marked with the hashtag #MoCoThanksParade will be broadcast on the jumbotron at Ellsworth and Fenton along the parade route.
