About Saint John Academy
WHY CHOOSE ST. JOHN ACADEMY?
St. John Academy provides children in pre-school through eighth grade with a Catholic education rooted in a rich tradition of academic excellence and spiritual formation, captured by the school’s motto, “Fides, Scientia, et Gaudium,” or “Faith, Knowledge, and Joy.”
At St. John Academy, children will experience our deep faith, strong curriculum and the joy of our educational environment in the Catholic tradition. Our students are ranked nationally in the top 10 percent in reading and math. St. John Academy is dedicated to offering children the best fundamental education possible.
For 60 years, St. John’s School has been promoting the faith, and educating the hearts, minds and souls of thousands of God’s precious children, as we assisted each to continuously grow in virtue. We will remain steadfast with our mission as we enter into School Year 2014-15! We hope and pray your experience at St. John’s this year will be nothing less than wonderful. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of our 2013-2014 PTO Team, who helped generate thousands of dollars in fund raising events, you will discover new technology throughout the school, a new playground (coming soon!) for our little ones, and new resources for our teachers and students, specific to the grade level, which impact learning.
The St. John Academy curriculum encompasses the sequentially ordered learning experiences the school provides for its students. The total curriculum includes the development of Catholic values and attitudes, as well as the attainment of knowledge and skills necessary for the student’s spiritual, moral, intellectual, social and physical development.
St. John Academy uses the curriculum issued by the Office of Catholic Schools. The basic curriculum for the school (but not necessarily for each grade level) includes the following subjects: Religion, Reading, Language Arts (English, Spelling, Handwriting), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts (Art, Music, Band), Health and Safety, Physical Education, Computer Education, Library and Spanish.
Each classroom teacher is responsible for teaching the content and mastery of the skills assigned his/her particular grade or subject area. These are further enhanced by the teacher’s commitment to integrate the curriculum into the texts chosen by the administration and faculty and to adjust the material to the particular student needs. This adjustment provides for both remediation and enrichment.
