Program Description
Columbia Montessori School provides a variety of programs and schedules to meet the needs of today’s families. We offer three and five day programs with full and part time schedules. During the academic school year ( September – June) we offer a three and five day programs. Our summer program is more flexible because of vacations. The summer programs can be two, three, and five days per week. This allows children to attend Columbia Montessori School twelve months per year.
PRIMARY CLASS # 1 is for children ages 2.5 to 4.0. This Montessori class is for children who are toilet trained. The teachers will help and encourage those children who are not totally trained, but who are progressing well with this stage of learning, however, space for these children is limited. Encouragement to help promote good bathroom habits is stressed. Children who stay all day will nap after having lunch together. Social skills and focus on academics using the Montessori materials are taught. The class is from 9:00 to 11:30, three or five days per week. The Day Care program is from 3:00 – 6:00.
PRIMARY CLASS #2 and #3 are for children ages 3.0 to 5.0. This class meets State Kindergarten requirements for 5 year olds. These children must be toilet trained and do not nap. Social skills and focus on academics using a full set of Montessori materials are stressed. This class can be part time (9:00 – 11:30 or 12:30 – 3:00), or full time (9:00 – 3:00). Children who stay all day have a second session of Montessori after lunch and recess. The Day Care program is from 3:00 to 6:00.
KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE are for children ages 5 to 7. This class is for children who have had two or more years of Montessori education. These children focus on academics using a full set of Montessori materials. Attention is given to social skills and preparing them for public and private schools. An introduction to traditional teaching methods will also be used. This class is from 9:00 to 3:00 only, five days per week. To be considered for this class, children must meet certain academic requirements. If your child will be five years old on or before September 1, he/she is considered kindergarten age. Early admission to Kindergarten is considered on an individual basis. If you feel your child is ready for Kindergarten but does not meet the state requirements, and would like to consider early admission, please call the school office for more information. To be considered for early admission Kindergarten at our school your child must turn 5 years old by October 13. Students currently attending Columbia Montessori have first priority for Kindergarten and First Grade over early admission Kindergarten students. Class placement for early admission Kindergarten is a decision by Administration. Parent requests will be considered. The Day Care program is from 3:00 to 6:00.
