Laurie’s Lesson Plans – Week 4
Posted by LaurieMcCarty in Articles on Sat, Jul 14, 2012
This week I thought I would share with you some of the resources I’ve been using to create my lesson plans this summer. There are so many blogs, websites and even smart phone apps out there that provide free printable worksheets, lesson plans and activities. If you are looking for ideas for creating your own lesson plans or even just expanding on the ones I’ve created for you, the following websites are a great place to start.
This week’s theme is outer space and in the course of my research I found a great blog called Homeschool Creations. This blog offers resources, free printables, & encouragement for homeschool families. On this blog I found the Astronaut Preschool Pack, a free download full of outer space themed learning activities. This download would be a great add-on to the lesson plan and activities for this week. The Astronaut pack is just one of many downloads they have so be sure to check back each week as we tackle a new theme.
Starfall.com is a website dedicated to helping children learn to read. This website offers interactive games and learning activities for children as well as free downloads. I love this site as a complement to the worksheets I’ve listed in the lesson plan because it also gives kids valuable computer practice while working on their reading skills.
The website Education.com is another valuable resource for kids learning activities. With free worksheets available for every grade level, you can easily alter my lesson plans to fit any age. This site does require you to log in before downloading the worksheets but it’s well worth the extra step to gain access to everything they have to offer. I’ve found these worksheets to be some of the best I’ve found, they are in full color, and very high quality.
I haven’t included any smartphone apps in my lesson plans but if you are a parent on the go, this list of the Best Educational Apps for Kids is a good place to start.
