4 Creative Ways to Use Pinterest

Before Pinterest existed, I typically would e-mail myself when I came across an interesting recipe, a great article, a fantastic gift for a family member or a fun craft. Now I have Pinterest. Oh, Pinterest how I love thee. It’s such an addiction and a huge time suck. Lately I have been using Pinterest as my brain dump. I find myself making more lists on Pinterest than I do with a pen and paper. Does anyone else do this? Here are some of my most recent favorite ways to use the lovely Pin machine.
1. Meal Planning with Kids
As I go through the week I pin recipes that look appetizing. Then when I sit down to plan my menu for the following week, I already have most of the work done. Using Pinterest to meal plan is an easy to involve your kids in the meal planning. Once you have created your board of possible recipes, have them choose what pictures look good to them. This may help with the “buy in factor” of trying new foods.
2. This season I want to…
I swear if I don’t create a list of activities I want to do during a paticular season the months will fly by and before I know it it’s time to switch out the wardrobe again. This summer I used Pinterest to keep track of my family Summer Bucket List. As we cross things off the list, I plan to document the date we did the event right in the label box for the pin. At the end of the summer, it should be easy to create our summer photo book, since I will have the date of each event in one place.
3. Virtual Memory Book
A few weeks ago I became distracted by someone else’s pin of Inspector Gadget. One thing led to another and soon I had a board filled of childhood memories. It is amazing how just one image can trigger a million more memories, good or bad.
4. Pre-Christmas Shopping
Ok, I know it’s only June and the last thing you want to do is think about Christmas, but I find that Pinterest is a great way to remember certain gift ideas that pop into my head. My preschooler is constantly pointing out toys he likes so when we are in a store I will take a picture of it with my phone. When I get home I will then pin the toy to my Christmas gift idea board. I’m hoping this will help me get my shopping done a little bit earlier this year.
