Name: Jennifer Gerlock
Home: Frederick, Maryland
Meet the family: Married with two tween Dudes.
Why we love her: She knows pretty much everything about nearly, um, everything! Seriously, the woman is knowledgeable about all kinds of social-media-marketing-blogging-business-growing type stuff. Plus, she’s just seriously good people. Always helpful. Always supportive. And always down to share a laugh. Oh, and her site is pretty fresh too. Love the working mom series she has on her site featuring working mothers who are doing awesome things.
Why she thinks you should check out her site:
Well, I am a manic working mom trying to run a business who has just been hit (hard) with the hormonal pre-teen years of both of her sons. (If nothing else, I can make you feel better about your own normal life.) Aside from that fact, I write about working mom solutions and products, books, personal hilarity, issues in the blogosphere, running (my passion) as well as a little bit of Oprah-like inspirationalisms.
How to Get Into Blogging
I had read about the whole “blogging thing” in a magazine and, not to be too simplistic, but I just thought that it sounded like FUN. (After all, I am a terrible over-sharer and aspiring writer so it made perfect sense.) I’ve never looked back.
[My advice to others is] jump in and do it! Don’t hold back. It can be a tremendously rewarding journey and one that will take you places you’ve never dreamed of going before.
How Being a Business Owner Affects Her Blog
The most challenging part of running my blog is making sure it is an appropriate compliment to my business. What I mean by that is that should a client (or my mother-in-law!) happen upon my blog, I need to make sure that is appropriate. If my blog was anonymous I could open up and not worry about repercussions. I mean, I once had a city alderman stop me on the street and speak to me about my latest family drama. THAT was an eye-opener. Now, I think twice before hitting “publish” on a blog post.
I’m a laid back parent. I used to wonder why I never had little girls but I have discovered that I have a special gift for relating to boys. Although I am a makeup and high heel kind of gal, I’m also a lizard holding, mud splashing, skateboarding kind of mom and my boys adore me for it.
I would love for my kids to remember me as someone who loved life, was fun to be around and also loved them with all of her heart. I want them to remember all of the lessons I am teaching them about being a responsible and kind hearted adults as well as good husbands to their wives and a good fathers to their children.
