Did this week’s light dusting of snow leave your children craving for more snow? It might be too early in the winter to say this, but I’m glad that the snow didn’t stick. Satisfy your children’s need for snow by curling up with some hot chocolate and Scholastic’s Caldecott Favorites Featuring The Snowy Day DVD collection.
The Storybook Treasures line brings classic children’s picture books to life. Instead of flashy animation, the story is told using the books’ original illustrations. With celebrity narration by John Lithgow and Laura Dern (to name a few), the focus is on the beautifully written stories.
The Caldecott Favorites collection features Ezra Jack Keats’ Caldeott Winner The Snowy Day as well as several other Keats picture books. The Snowy Day tells the story of a little boy waking up to see his street covered in snow. If you want even more snow, the Antartic Antics DVD has funny animal stories. Plus there’s penguins! You can never go wrong with penguins.
The 3 DVD set contains over 20 stories. There are even Spanish versions for some of them. Your younger children will enjoy watching the stories, while your emerging readers can follow along when you use the read along option.
Scholastic’s Caldecott Favorites Featuring The Snow Day DVD collection retails for $24.95 and is recommended for ages 2-9.
If you want to see The Snowy Day come to life, Adventure Theatre at Glen Echo Park is celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Snow Day with a live stage version of Keats’ book. The production opens January 20th and runs through February 12, 2012. The show is appropriate for all ages. Visit their website for more information and to purchase tickets.
I received a copy of the DVD collection for review. All opinions are my own.
