The Carroll County Arts Council is pleased to be a part of Westminster’s efforts to celebrate their 145th Memorial Day Parade by hosting a free concert by The United States Navy Band “Sea Chanters” on Tuesday, May 22 at 7 pm at the Carroll Arts Center.

The Sea Chanters chorus is the official chorus of the United States Navy, and the ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from classical choral music, to traditional sea chanteys to Broadway musicals!  Under the leadership of Senior Chief Musician Georgina L. Todd, the Sea Chanters appear throughout the United States and often perform at the White House, the Vice President’s home, and for other Washington dignitaries.

They are one of the most dynamic vocal ensembles in the country and are frequently found at the center of our nation’s most important events including the 56th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony in 2009.  As well, they have played a vital role in comforting the nation in times of mourning, including appearances at memorial for the astronauts of the space shuttle Columbia, and the Presidential wreath laying ceremony at the United Airlines Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville, PA.  Their performance of “Amazing Grace” at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance at the National Cathedral in Washington after the events of 9/11 were deeply moving and inspiring.

Free tickets will be available to current Arts Council members beginning April 1.  There will be a limit of 4 tickets per person and they can be obtained by visiting the Carroll Arts Center box office, or by sending a self addressed stamped envelope to the Carroll Arts Center at 91 West Main Street, Westminster MD 21157.  Remaining tickets will be made available to the general public on May 1, 2012.
