2015 Event Schedule

 AAA Recycling Zone | 10 am – 2 pm 

All recycling will take place in Parking Lot 1 at Mount Trashmore Park, located near the YMCA. **Please enter from South Boulevard.**

Electronics Recycling
Get rid of those unwanted electronics! View a list of accepted items. Provided by Versability Resources

Document Shredding
Bring your personal documents to be shredded for free on site​. Limit 3 boxes per vehicle. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed but please no metals, three-ring binders, batteries or plastics. Provided by Shred It

Car Battery Round Up

Get a $5 gift card (limit 3 per person, while supplies last) for every vehicle battery you bring in. Car, motorcycle, lawnmower and tractor batteries are eligible.
Child Safety Seat Recycling

Have a used child safety seat that no longer meets industry safety standards? Bring it to the AAA Recycling Zone, and we’ll see to it that all the plastic parts are properly broken down and recycled.

Rain Barrel Sales

Recycle rain water with a conservation-friendly rain barrel, available for purchase onsite. Sales and pick-up will take place in the AAA Recycling Zone located in Parking Lot 1. Please enter from South Boulevard.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal
Don’t put that leftover paint or household cleaner in the trash! We’ll properly dispose of these items for you. No more than 5 gallons of liquids or 75 pounds of dry chemical can be accepted at this event. Waste should be in original container with labeling intact.

Metals Recycling
Did you know we can recycle the metal from your old power tools or even a vacuum cleaner? View a list of accepted items.


Prescription Drug Disposal
When is the last time you cleaned out your medicine cabinet? Don’t flush prescription drugs down the toilet or throw them in the trash as that poses potential safety and health hazards. The Virginia Beach Police Department will be accepting all pharmaceuticals (prescription and over‐the‐counter). This includes pills, liquids, capsules, inhalers, patches, etc. ​​

Trashion Show | 1:00 pm

Students from Landstown High School Fashion Marketing program will present a unique fashion show featuring original student designs that have been constructed from 100% recycled and repurposed materials including old beach balls, newspapers, used CDs, trash bags, paper bags and more. Modeled by the students who created them, these “trashion” masterpieces were created as a mindful and relevant study of stylish sustainability.​

Green Market 

Support local businesses! Shop among small, green, local and fair trade vendors.

Zen Zone | 11 am – 4 pm

Get centered with yoga demos, massages and more!

Dumpster Dive Demonstration | 12 – 3 pm

Are we recycling as much as we can? Project Green Teenswill sift through trash and debris in a park dumpster to find items that could have been recycled.
Past dumpster dives have shown that the amount of recyclables in the trash dumpster has decreased 25% since the recycling program at Mount Trashmore Park began.See the full report.

Recycling Dumpster Painting

Make your mark! Paint with The Governor’s School for the Arts students and raise awareness about conservation.

Children’s Activities

Children’s crafts will be provided by the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast. A bounce house and other inflatables will also be available.
