About Queen of Apostles School and St. Gabriel Day Care Center

Queen of Apostles Catholic School is a co-educational school serving students K–8. Founded in 1966, we have a rich tradition of providing an education permeated with the spirit of Christ while developing the whole child: spiritually, academically, physically, and emotionally.

WHY CHOOSE QUEEN OF APOSTLES SCHOOL?

Some of the best reasons are our…

  • Vibrant religious identity—Students attend weekly mass, have the opportunity to participate in the sacraments, are active in community outreach and pro-life activities, and get to hear from committed Catholic speakers.
  • Dedicated professional educators—Our faculty members have nearly two hundred years combined teaching experience, and forty percent hold advanced degrees. They work hard to make Queen of Apostles a Christ-centered school in which students excel.
  • Enriching curriculum—Our curricular offerings address the needs of diverse learners through leveled instruction in mathematics, science, English, computer science, religion, world language, social studies, and reading. Students participate in a variety of mathematics competitions and in the talent search offered by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. We also provide daily resource and Title I support, and after-school tutoring and special academic assistance are available.
  • TerraNova excellenceQueen of Apostles students consistently score above national averages on TerraNova standardized tests.
  • Exciting extracurricular activities—Students may choose from a wide array of after-school activities and clubs such as CYO athletics, choir, band, MATHCOUNTS, and our chess, math, and Lego/robotics clubs.
  • State-of-the-art technology—Interactive white boards in every classroom allow students to engage with the curriculum in unique, web-based ways. Our well-equipped computer lab gives students the tools they need to navigate our information technology–based society with confidence.
  • Safe environment—Our faculty and staff take special training to ensure a secure school environment and they work daily to provide a safe place for children to grow in faith and knowledge. Likewise, students are trained to make good choices and practice virtue in all of their endeavors.
  • Diversity—Students from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, united as one body in Christ, come together to learn with and from one another.
  • Well-appointed facilities—In addition to our welcoming classrooms, our school boasts a beautiful gymnasium, an interactive science lab, and a recently expanded library.
  • Enthusiastic parent-teacher organization—Parent volunteers collaborate with our faculty to enhance academic opportunities for students and to provide events and service opportunities that build up both the school and local communities.
  • Programs that fit your schedule—Our full-day kindergarten and extended-day program keep students engaged and learning throughout the day. The morning extended day program begins at 6:45 AM and the afternoon program is available until 6:00 PM.

ST. GABRIEL’S DAY CARE CENTER

St. Gabriel’s staff strongly believes that children must enjoy their age and develop independence through creative playing.

We welcome children of all cultures, religions, and racial backgrounds. The center offers a serious program of Catholic, moral, educational, and physical development, and teaches each child to the best of his or her potential.

The Poor Sisters of St. Joseph find joy in the interests, development, and well being of each child under their supervision and care. The principal philosophy of Saint Gabriel’s is to share the love of God with everyone; therefore, the good sisters care for children as they are, “Children of God.” We accept every child and recognize each one as did our Lord: as individual gifts of God to us. Every child is cherished as a special spiritual child of the sisters.

Queen of Apostles School (K-8) is a hidden gem in the West End of Alexandria. It is a small Catholic School with personal, thoughtful, but skilled educators. Although the school is part of Q of A Parish (Arlington Diocese), the school is open to all kids, from all cultures and all religions. We have a diverse population of students. I have two children in this school and feel every penny I pay in tuition is worth it. I see wonderful positive changes in my children as they are growing and learning. The teachers and other parents are welcoming. If you are new to Alexandria and looking for a disciplined K-8 school, I strongly recommend this school.

Both of our children have passed through the doors of Queen of Apostles Catholic School and have flourished scholastically, socially and spiritually. This educational foundation contributed to our oldest son’s success in a challenging International Baccalaureate (IB) program in high school…eventually attending the University of California Berkeley.
Our other son (current student) literally runs to the front door, eager to begin each day. He looks forward to weekly visits/experiments in the science lab (microscopes, lab coats) and participating in the lego/robotics club. As a parent, I appreciate the focused attention our children receive with smaller class sizes and the interaction the older children have with the younger ones (i.e. 5th grade prayer partners at Mass with Kinders). There is an active PTO, and QofA’s annual fund-raising/social events include a 5K run/1M walk, “Trick or Trunk,” International Festival, Pancake Breakfasts. We are fortunate to be part of the QofA family!

Our son has been attending Queen of Apostles since kindergarten. He is now in 2nd grade and absolutely LOVES the school. He’s made so many good friends who share his interests and values that he couldn’t wait for summer break to end so that he could return. As a parent that makes me very happy. We love the faculty and administration. They provide every student with the attention, care and nurturing they require. The curriculum is challenging, the pace appropriate and the expectations pragmatic. It’s exciting to see our son learning and growing every day! Queen of Apostles offers numerous extracurricular activities to keep students engaged, as well as unique supplemental educational opportunities, morning and extended day care and an amazing new science lab! The school also holds several family focused events throughout the year creating a community atmosphere that encourages involvement and mutual support. We are most grateful for the focus on Catholic values that provide the foundation for building strong moral character. We’ve witnessed the positive impact Queen of Apostles has had on our son and we can’t recommend it highly enough.

Great school. It’s my daughter’s third year in Queen of Apostles and I can surely say she feels at home. The teachers and staff are very attentive, personable and professional, providing a healthy environment for our kids to grow academically as well as spiritually. As a mother I love to see my child’s daily efforts towards becoming a more loving, caring, sharing, forgiving human being. The experience is priceless. Thank you staff, teachers and PTO members for being part of it!!!
