About Acting for Young People
Acting For Young People’s (AFYP) goal is to provide actors of all ages with professional-level training in a supportive and fun environment. Through this training, we hope to help our actors develop skills that will serve them in all walks of life, on stage and off. Our faculty is made up of working professionals in the industry – actors, directors and teaching artists who are constantly honing their skills through their creative endeavors and bringing those skills back to share with our students.
Our programs include fall and winter/spring classes, summer camps, student showcases, after school programs, and scout badge workshops. Our productions about pedestrian & bicycle safety, internet safety and character development are currently touring Northern Virginia schools.
AFYP was founded in 1997 and is sponsored by the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts. AFYP works in collaboration with George Mason’s Potomac Arts Academy, which offers excellent programs in music, visual art and computer game design.
Thanks to our students and their families, AFYP was voted “BEST Children’s Theater/Education” in the 2006, 2009 and 2011 “BEST FOR FAMILIES” annual reader poll conducted by Washington Family Magazine. AFYP has also been among the finalists for “Best Day Camp” each year since 2002.
