Welcome to another week of Meet a Mom Monday!

We’re bringing you someone new to the DC mom blogging scene and we hope you spend a little time getting to know her and checking out her site!

She’s already shared one of her awesome Valentine’s Day ideas posts with us and we hope to bring you much more from her soon!

Name: Alissa Zaal

Home: Middletown, MD

Owner of: parenting blog From-Mom-2-Mom

Meet the family: married to the best man ever (her words, swear it!), and mom to two daughters ages 3 and 5 months

Why we love her: Her site is just a really great resource for local parents.  And, as someone in charge of bringing event info to the community, I know what kind of time investment and dedication something like this takes!  I love it that she does a great job of sharing events in both Frederick County and Montgomery County and that she doesn’t just share big events that are easy to find, but also smaller events like library story times and Home Depot kid’s workshops.

Why she thinks you should read her site: They should use my blog as a quick “go to” site for all the fun events and happenings in their area for the week. PLUS you can get notifications of special discounts and deals for your kids and your family! You don’t have to do any research, just view the blog!

On Starting Her Own Venture

I had friends encourage me to make a blog sharing all the great events and deals I was finding. I loved taking the time to research and find fun things to do with my girls, why wouldn’t I want to share my findings with other mom’s who might not have the time to look for stuff to do!?  If you find something you love and are passionate about, go for it! Being a mom is the best job in the world, but if you have a gift or a passion, there is no reason why you shouldn’t pursue it! Take the time to research and plan everything out, so you are able to balance your new venture and your family. I love blogging, and I love doing research on the computer! But having fun as a family is my top priority always, so I will plan to “work” during nap times or when my husband is spending “Daddy time” with our girls.  Sometimes putting in the research can be time consuming. But it is all worth it when I get an email or Facebook comment from someone thanking me for my recent blog post, because they just had a great time with their kids at an event I blogged about! As long as my blog can help other mom’s out there have fun as a family, and save money, it’s all worth my time!
Want to see more from Alissa?!  Here are a few great places to start:
We love it that Alissa has found her passion and are super curious about others of you who are just starting your blogging journey too!
How did you get started?  What inspires you each day to write?  What do you blog about and how are you growing your readership?!
We are hopeful that some of you will reach out with questions for Alissa (as a newbie she probably has plenty of tips!), and we’re always looking for bloggers interested in getting their feet wet by writing for us (shoot an email to our blog editor, Amanda, at parentingbydummies at gmail dot com), or joining one of our upcoming How to Blog Awesome workshops (more info coming soon!).
Come over to our Get Your Body Back Community today and leave your thoughts, questions, or ideas in the Blogging thread, because we think taking back your mind and focusing it on something you enjoy is definitely a part of taking your body back!
