We hadn’t even taken the boxes out of the living room and my kids were bringing items downstairs for our “Sell Pile”. Oh yeah, I have a sell pile. It’s permanent. It actually has nothing directly to do with the Christmas holidays.
Thankfully, my kids have grown up with this mentality. My sister, Devon and I have spent many years hauling things out in front of our houses, or traipsing to huge multi-family yard sales (there’s a great one with the City of Gaithersburg), or constantly listing things on eBay and Craigslist all in that constant quest for “de-cluttering”. She’s so good at it, in fact, that she now works for an organizational/de-cluttering company!! (She IS good - and I can get you a great “favor to a sister rate”!!)
There is something so cleansing about getting rid of the “stuff”…and most of the “stuff” I find around the house is random – like the stuff kids get at birthday parties (I could start my own version of Oriental Trading, I swear!) I promise that this year, I will think before I stuff those goody bags for the kids – although at this year’s Egg Hunt, I’ll have to cross my fingers!!
My mom and I cleaned out Brodie’s room this weekend to make room and I collected 2 bags of “stuff” and 1 bag of garbage…and it’s not like she’s a 6-year old hoarder with garbage piled to the ceiling – it’s more like coloring, doodling, papers from school garbage that had to go. Plus, although I clean out her closet regularly for clothes that don’t fit…I don’t often clean it out for stuff she just doesn’t wear…but I did that this weekend. And now, we have a whole bag of clothes to try to first sell and then donate.
So I am feeling better – I figure if I can continue on this path then by Spring I won’t have too much cleaning to do!!
Oh, and did I mention? You can sell your “stuff” for free right here at Tots2Tweens…check out our classifieds…all you need to do is register and post away – no limit – no fees!!
